Our latest version, 2026.01.08, is available in all release channels!

Updates include more visual refreshes on Android (moving to Material 3) and an expanded #OpenStreetMap editor.

The OSM editor now supports a number of POI types that require multiple tags, like adding statues, Buddhist temples, coffee vending machines, etc.

See the full release notes for details!

I see "Removed fictional speed limits for link roads" in the changelog. I didn't even know that was possible before.

Does that mean that before:

if one section of road was 80 km/h, the next one had no information and the one after that was 80 km/h again... Then the section between the two was also calculated as 80 km/h in the route calculation?

@JBrickelt963 similar, it inferred limits for some links, and even showed them to the user. See codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/iss… for a much longer explanation of the problem that's now solved 🙂

Are any visual/UX refreshes coming to iOS as well? 👀 One of the biggest feature mismatches currently between CoMaps and Organic is the overall routing workflow, which is still very unintuitive on CoMaps (I can’t immediately change the route endpoints for example, and the various route settings aren’t in one place, like in Organic and proprietary competitors). It’s actually a place where y’all can supersede Organic, which I think is also still complex (Route to/Route from v Change Stop).

@moshimotsu cherry picking this from the upstream is unfortunately not possible as it seems commits for that are missing, see codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/iss…

So unfortunately it's more work and will take more time.

@CoMaps - Hike, Bike, Drive I am new to Comaps and have already donated. Great work! Thank you ! What I miss most is so far is a better location search functionality. When I am in a hurry I want to key in city and street and house number and be sure that it is found. I get it that with all-offline this can take longer than with the commercial on-line apps, but it is a bit of a pain that I first have to search for the city, find it, go there, and then have to do another search for the street address. You could add interpretation rules for commas or colons or other delimiters that can be used to clearly designated what is a countray, what is a city and what is a street address, or you could have a multi-line input mask with some designated fields.

@tobifant in principle this already works, by typing a whole address one can find it (eg this search was made when the map was centered on a small village in Argentina).

Having said that, we're aware that the search needs to get some love to work better, as depending on the amount of maps you've downloaded etc the experience can be not perfect!

Als Antwort auf CoMaps - Hike, Bike, Drive

@CoMaps - Hike, Bike, Drive I can't confirm this here. I am in Stuttgart and have Baden Württemberg and Hessen installed (as well as more federal states, Austria, Slowenia and Croatia - is this too much?). While centered in Stuttgart, I do not get sensible search results for "Rathausstraße Bad Vilbel" (see screenshot 1).

I get a result for "Bad Vilbel" alone (see screnshot 2).

I click on that one, the map centers on "Bad Vilbel", and then I get a sensible search result for "Rathausstraße Bad Vilbel" (screenshot 3).

It's like this also for streets in a neighbouring town only 10km away from me for some reason. Do I have too many maps? Is my phone too slow (it is an old one) so that Comaps "gives up" after some time?

Als Antwort auf Tobias Ernst

@tobifant it could potentially be too much/detailed data, leading to decreased search performance. I'm on top of my head not sure if phone speed is a factor too! But there's many search issues already reported, see: codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/iss…
Als Antwort auf CoMaps - Hike, Bike, Drive

@CoMaps - Hike, Bike, Drive OK. I will wait patientily for improvements :-). For the time being I preplan my trips with CoMaps so that I am not in a hurry :). From the above reported issue, I think an option to either fuzzy-search in a configurable perimeter or to perform an exact search is a good start. I'd prefer if you'd find a solution that does not require a local AI, though, as I feel that CoMaps should stay a lean solution without exaggerated hardware requirements.
