Ich bin jemand, der Transpersonen mit dem gewünschten Pronomen anredet, sich bemüht, sie entsprechend wahrzunehmen und ihnen auch sonst mit Respekt und Verständnis begegne. Aber, und auf die Gefahr hin, dass das hier unpopulär ist: Ich weise daraufhin, dass die Gerichtsentschiedung in den UK lediglich die Behandlung gemäß Gleichstellungsgesetz betrifft und nicht das Frausein als solches. Diese Entscheidung halte ich für rechtlich nicht zu beanstanden. Wo gesetzliche Privilegien für biologische Frauen geschaffen wurden, die darauf gerichtet sind, durch das Frausein qua Geburt erlangte Nachteile auszugleichen, so sind das Privilegien, die ein Mann schon hat und die eine Transfrau mit ihrer bewussten Entscheidung zur Transition zur Frau verwirkt hat. Die UK-Entscheidung bedeutet ausdrücklich nicht, dass die Transfrau nicht mehr Frau laut Pass sein darf. Die Überschrift der NZZ ist somit tendentiös und irreführend. Das Urteil des Supreme Court ist im Gegenteil ein Schritt zur Eindämmung der Konflikte rund um diese Themen, von dem Transpersonen langfristig auch profitieren könnten.

@Michael 🇺🇦 I see that in the Admin Panel, Sites, Message Relay, I can set "Number of languages for the language detection" and "Language Quality" and the description reads as if the relay filters inbound content. However, where do I set the languages for which to filter? There is no setting where I can select which languages I want to receive via the relay. Could it be that currently I only get English from all of my relays as my instance language is English?
So what we need is a) ability to configure the list of language for inbound filtering and b) filtering also, with a separate list of allowed languages per relay, filtering outbound contenct.
Where do I go to create an issue?
As to your other questions: I don't think we need Russian. In Ukraine, choosing Fediverse over mainstream networks is about equivalent to choosing to talk in Ukrainian only :). But generally, it would be good if we could configure a list of languages. As to readonly subscription, that would be a quick fix, but the Fediverse is about interaction, so it would not be a good solution.

Twenty Lessons on Fighting Tyranny from the Twentieth Century
Timothy Snyder
1. Do not obey in advance. Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do.
2. Defend institutions. It is institutions that help us to preserve decency. They need our help as well. Do not speak of “our institutions” unless you make them yours by acting on their behalf. Institutions do not protect themselves. So choose an institution you care about and take its side.
3. Beware the one-party state. The parties that remade states and suppressed rivals were not omnipotent from the start. They exploited a historic moment to make political life impossible for their opponents. So support the multi-party system and defend the rules of democratic elections.
4. Take responsibility for the face of the world. The symbols of today enable the reality of tomorrow. Notice the swastikas and other signs of hate. Do not look away, and do not get used to them. Remove them yourself and set an example for others to do so.
5. Remember professional ethics. When political leaders set a negative example, professional commitments to just practice become important. It is hard to subvert a rule-of-law state without lawyers, or to hold show trials without judges. Authoritarians need obedient civil servants, and concentration camp directors seek businessmen interested in cheap labor.
6. Be wary of paramilitaries. When the men with guns who have always claimed to be against the system start wearing uniforms and marching around with torches and pictures of a Leader, the end is nigh. When the pro-leader paramilitary and the official police and military intermingle, the end has come.
7. Be reflective if you must be armed. If you carry a weapon in public service, God bless you and keep you. But know that evils of the past involved policemen and soldiers finding themselves, one day, doing irregular things. Be ready to say no.
8. Stand out. Someone has to. It is easy to follow along. It can feel strange to do or say something different. But without that unease, there is no freedom. Remember Rosa Parks. The moment you set an example, the spell of the status quo is broken, and others will follow.
9. Be kind to our language. Avoid pronouncing the phrases everyone else does. Think up your own way of speaking, even if only to convey that thing you think everyone is saying. Make an effort to separate yourself from the internet. Read books.
10. Believe in truth. To abandon facts is to abandon freedom. If nothing is true, then no one can criticize power because there is no basis upon which to do so. If nothing is true, then all is spectacle. The biggest wallet pays for the most blinding lights.
11. Investigate. Figure things out for yourself. Spend more time with long articles. Subsidize investigative journalism by subscribing to print media. Realize that some of what is on the internet is there to harm you. Learn about sites that investigate propaganda campaigns (some of which come from abroad). Take responsibility for what you communicate to others.
12. Make eye contact and small talk. This is not just polite. It is part of being a citizen and a responsible member of society. It is also a way to stay in touch with your surroundings, break down social barriers, and understand whom you should and should not trust. If we enter a culture of denunciation, you will want to know the psychological landscape of your daily life.
13. Practice corporeal politics. Power wants your body softening in your chair and your emotions dissipating on the screen. Get outside. Put your body in unfamiliar places with unfamiliar people. Make new friends and march with them.
14. Establish a private life. Nastier rulers will use what they know about you to push you around. Scrub your computer of malware. Remember that email is skywriting. Consider using alternative forms of the Internet, or simply using it less. Have personal exchanges in person. For the same reason, resolve any legal trouble.
15. Contribute to good causes. Be active in organizations, political or not, that express your own view of life. Pick a charity or two and set up autopay.
16. Learn from peers in other countries. Keep up your friendships abroad, or make new friends abroad. The present difficulties in the United States are an element of a larger trend. And no country is going to find a solution by itself. Make sure you and your family have passports.
17. Listen for dangerous words. Be alert to the use of the words extremism and terrorism. Be alive to the fatal notions of emergency and exception. Be angry about the treacherous use of patriotic vocabulary.
18. Be calm when the unthinkable arrives. Modern tyranny is terror management. When the terrorist attack comes, remember that authoritarians exploit such events in order to consolidate power. Do not fall for it.
19. Be a patriot. Set a good example of what America means for the generations to come.
20. Be as courageous as you can. If none of us is prepared to die for freedom, then all of us will die under tyranny.

How can I be so sure that these steps increase security or data protection for me and do not decrease it? I may disable Google from tracking me, but how can I reliably know that I am not enabling some other actors, like Indian or even Russian hackers, to have full access to my data?
I don't want to hear political arguments about whom to trust more, the commercial world or teh FOSS world. My sympathies are all with FOSS.
My problem, however, is that I work in a job where I am really obliged to keep my devices secure. I therefore need to be sure that what I do increases and does not decrease my level of security. Are there any truly trustworthy and independent reviews, in particular, of Aurora store, and of the tools that are used to overcome the Samsung FRP Lock after deinstalling Google services, of being safe and not containing any backdoors?

@Ulrich Popp Naja, nach Ausstieg aus der Apple-Welt (habe für die mal gearbeitet und das hat lang nachgewirkt ...) bin ich halt nach den Kriterien robust, Wechselakku, Klinkenstecker und bitte nicht zu groß und nicht zu teuer bei einem Samsung XCover 5 gelandet. Das mit der UI kannst Du laut sagen, aber ich verwende minimalist.phone, das ist zwar Payware aber total schwarzweiß - ich hab einfach eine alphabetische Applist und kann in der Auswählen oder die Anfangsbuchstaben des gewünschten Appnamens in ein Suchfeld eintippen. So soll das sein ;).
Ein anderes Problem hab ich grad identifiziert: Ich bin ein Schussel und brauche Tracker zum Sachenfinden. Verwende derzeit Tile. Das hat zwar ein von Google, Samsung etc. unabhängiges Trackingnetzwerk, aber deren bescheuerte App zum Finden von Sachen geht nicht, wenn man Google Maps oder Google Playstore deinstalliert. Da sind meine Bemühungen um mehr Datenschutz wohl erstmal am Ende angelangt ;).
"Whatsppgruppe geht net" ist so ne Sache. Ich seh ja, Du hast für Deine Kirchengemeinde eine eigene Mastodoninstanz eingerichtet, ich seh aber auch dass da nur zwei User drauf sind . Naja, ich vermute immer Gutes und nehme an die anderen sind einfach bei anderen Mastodoninstanzen aber ich glaub du weißt, was ich meine. Bei uns ist immerhin der Pfarrer selbst nicht bei Whatsapp sondern bei Signal, das ist ein guter Ausgangspunkt. Individuelle Kommunikationen führe ich bereits per Signal. Aber wegen der Jugendarbeit sind die meisten Orga-Gruppen bei Whatsapp, wir haben nicht so ganz viele Jugendliche und auch nicht ganz so viele sonstige Helfer, sind froh wenn jemand überhaupt mitmacht, und man will da bis jetzt nicht noch eine weitere Einstiegshürde (andere App installieren) schaffen ...

Maybe we're wrong but for the moment they're not interoperable.
But the new European DMA regulation requires platforms to be interoperable. Meta and Apple are obliged now to open up their apps to communicate with smaller rival apps such as Signal. Apps using XMPP may be allowed to communicate with other apps in the future, although this seems to pose some security risks.

Ich finde diese Aussage ehrlich gesagt problematisch.
In meinen Augen impliziert das nämlich, dass Männer gewisse Privilegien haben, cis Frauen eine gesetzliche Kompensation dafür bekommen sollten, trans Frauen das allerdings nicht verdient haben.
Halte ich für falsch - Warum sollten trans Frauen benachteiligt werden dürfen?

Als Antwort auf Nerd • •@Nerd @NZZ Weil man cis-Frauen benachteiligt, wenn man trans-Frauen dieselben Rechte wie cis-Frauen einräumt. Insbesondere dann, wenn der Status trans-Frau rein durch Deklaration beim Meldeamt erlangt wird. Recht ist nicht nur ein "steht mir zu", Recht ist immer auch ein "steht anderen zu" und der kluge Gesetzgeber stellt hier einen vernünftigen Kompromiss her.
Einstmals musste man für den Passeintrag "Frau" als biologischer Mann eine psychologsiche Begutachtung und eine Hromonbehandlung und ggf. sogar einen operativen Eingriff über sich ergehen lassen. Wenn das passiert, so sind die Ausgangspositionen dann vergleichbar mit denen einer Frau. Dann soll der solchermaßen transitionierte Mensch auch alle Rechte einer Frau haben.
Neuerdings aber geht es rein um das gefühlte Geschlecht, mit dem man bereits den Eintrag im Pass ändern lassen kann. Es gibt zwar gewichtige Gründe dafür, das so zu handhaben. Dann folgt, aber dass solche biologisch immer noch ziemlich männlich daherkommenden trans-Frauen nicht automatisch in jederlei Hinsicht so behandelt werden können wie cis-Frauen.
Das Leben ist halt kein reines Wunschkonzert.
